BMW added the Competition Package to the M6 lineup in 2014 to give buyers a little extra awesome sauce to go with their already tasty 6er.Though it offered a bump in performnce, this package added only 15 horsepower and some new suspension components to the big M. For the 2016 model year, however, BMW is making the Competition Package even more worthwhile.

This updated Competition Package will push the 4.4-liter M TwinPower Turbo V-8 engine from its standard 560 horsepower and 501 pound-feet of torque to an intense 600 ponies and 516 pound-feet of torque. That’s an added 40 horses and 15 pound-feet of twist, which isn’t too shabby considering it is just a tick on the option sheet away.

With this power upgrade come no adverse effects. The fuel economy will remain the same, as will its emissions; not that either are too great to begin with.

What this added power will do is push the M6’s performance to new heights. The M6 Coupe and Grand Coupe will see their 0-to-62 mph times drop by 0.3 seconds to 3.9 seconds, while the M6 Convertible will drop to four seconds with the Competition Package. Top speed will remain at Germany’s favorite 155 mph, but a checkmark on the “M Driver’s Package” box lifts this limit to 189 mph.

Everything else will apparently remain unchanged with the package. It will come with stiffer springs, dampers, and antiroll bars for better handling, an Active M Differential for better traction, M-specific steering, and 20-inch M light-alloy wheels.

There is no mention of price for the updated package, but I do not expect to see it go much higher than its $6,645 MSRP from the 2015 model year. The M6 Competition Package will be available starting in July 2015.
