The first lucky people in the United States to order the BMW i8 recently received their vehicles in a unique way. Instead of taking delivery at a dealership, they were invited to the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance where beauty reigns supreme. Considering the striking statement that the i8 makes with its exterior, plus their high price tags, the cars fit right in at the exclusive event.

One of the new BMW i8 owners, Chef Thomas Keller, arranged for a special dinner for the group. The group was a gathering of elites, from Michael Fux, the CEO of Comfort Revolution, a mattress company, to Miles Nadal, who is the CEO and founder of MDC partners. Many other CEOs also took delivery of their luxury plug-in hybrid coupe. Also at the dinner was Rick Hendrick, who owns the second-largest privately-owned car dealer group in the country as well as his own NASCAR Sprint Cup team.

BMW used the event to also auction off a customized i8. The special edition of the car sold for a whopping $825,000, which is almost six times the base price of the car. At least all that money went to a charitable cause.
