Audi Shows off Compact SUV Rendering, Maybe the Q4?

Audi has given everyone something to chew on and debate about, releasing a compact SUV rendering. The German automaker will not tell anyone what vehicle it is supposed to be, whether it is a concept or something bound for production, or any other details. The overall sloping roof and shape of the mystery SUV has many people speculating it is the Q4, or at least a concept that will help shape the ultimate look of Audi’s rumored future compact SUV model.

Astute observers have noted that the SUV contains many of the same design cues as the 2016 Audi TT that was recently flashed at the Geneva Motor Show. Many of those design elements are shared with the Audi Allroad Shooting Brake Concept that was on display at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit earlier in the year, which was also based on the TT platform. Audi has made statements in the past to the effect that it is giving serious thought to an entire line of vehicles that would be based on the sporty TT.

The interior of the unnamed SUV has seating for four people, although with such a steeply raked roofline it is doubtful taller adults could sit comfortably in the rear seats. The rendering also shows that that seats fold flat, creating a level load floor that helps accommodate larger items. A pair of skis are laid over the folded seat. The interior rendering also features no infotainment touchscreen in the center stack, but instead a digital display in the gauge cluster area behind the steering wheel, constituting what Audi terms a “virtual cockpit.” The digital screen measures a healthy 12.3 inches, meaning drivers would not have to squint to read information displayed on it.

Everyone will be able to stop speculating once the car’s true nature is revealed at the New York International Auto Show. At that point, Audi will likely be spilling enough details to really get everyone excited about the future of this compact SUV.
