The Audi TT is one of my favorite sports cars, thanks to its lower price point and superb performance. For buyers willing to sacrifice a little performance for a lower base price, Audi has just released a new entry-level version of its small coupe and roadster.

Dubbed the TT 1.8 TFSI, you can guess what makes it cheaper than other TT’s in the lineup. That’s right, its 1.8-liter TFSI engine that takes the place of the 2.0-liter TFSI engine. This smaller-displacement engine puts out 180 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque – 4 horsepower and 94 pound-feet less than the 2.0 TFSI. This engine mates to either a six-speed manual transmission or an optional six-speed S tronic dual-clutch transmission.

In the coupe version, this drivetrain sprints the tiny TT to 62 mph in 6.9 seconds with the manual transmission or 7 seconds with the dual-clutch gearbox. The roadster version is 0.3 seconds slower across the board. The coupe tops out at 150 mph, while the roadster can only hit 147 mph.

Fuel economy is strong with the smaller engine, as the new TT 1.8 TFSI gets up to 33.6 mpg in its coupe version and up to 33.1 mpg in its roadster guise.

The base TT 1.8 TFSI will start from €32,100 and the TT Roadster 2.0 TFSI will base from €34,500 in their home market. The TT 2.0 TFSI bases from €35,000 and the TT Roadster 2.0 TFSI bases from €37,900, so it is clear that this new model may open up the lineup to a host of new buyers.

There is no mention of this lower-priced TT making its way to the States, but I highly doubt that it will.
