Alfa Rolls Out More Details on its U.S.-Spec Giulia
Alfa Romeo has been hard at work on its comeback to the U.S. market. It began with the awesomeness that is the 4C, and then moved to the 505-horsepower Giulia Quadrifoglio. Now, new details have emerged about the Giulia’s standard trim level. You know, the one that won’t be face-shifting fast.
The details released by Alfa state that the entry-level Giulia will come equipped with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with a twin-scroll turbocharger force-feeding it. This engine will not be a Ferrari-sourced unit, like the 2.9-liter powerhouse in the Quadrifoglio. Instead, it will be an Alfa Romeo-designed unit capable of spewing out a respectable 276 ponies.
There is no mention of what transmission will rest behind this potent four-cylinder, but I expect to see manual and automatic offerings. The standard setup will have power travelling to the rear wheels, but I am certain we’ll see an advanced all-wheel-drive system available to help it compete with 4MATIC-equipped C-Class models and xDrive-equipped Bimmer 3 Series models.
Other than these bits of information, Alfa Romeo has remained pretty tight lipped about the Giulia’s lower-tier trims. It’s sort of a backward approach to release the details on the most potent model first, but keep the lower-trim details on ice. I guess that’s the Italian way…
The Giulia will hit showrooms sometime in the summer of 2016, so we shouldn’t have to wait too much longer for additional details on its full lineup. Until then, we can continue drooling over the 505-horsepower, Ferrari-powered Giulia Quadrifoglio, which will supposedly check in at around $70k.
Stay tuned for more details.
