A Resurrected Bronco May be Back on Ford’s Radar

Rumors of a revived Ford Bronco get served to us nearly every year, and they never amount to anything. Now, a new report, which comes from Bloomberg, actually claims that both the Ranger and Bronco will soon return.

The most important part of this report is the fact that the Bronco is dependent upon the Ranger actually making a comeback. This is because the new Bronco will have the same bones as the new Ranger. In previous years – save for the Bronco II years – the rugged SUV shared its greasy bits with the F-Series pickups.

Being based on the Ranger could throw purists into a fit, as the Bronco II was definitely not a crowd pleaser. However, just the fact that Ford is considering creating a new body-on-frame SUV and not some soft-roading, uni-body SUV like the Explorer has become should make most people happy. What’s more, Ford is looking to challenge the Wrangler with the rumored Bronco, so no need to toss an F-Series chassis under it.

The big mystery remains the looks of this rumored SUV. While that is one riddle that likely won’t be solved for some time, there are a few areas we can look for potential previews. First is the Everest SUV, which is available overseas and based upon the global Ranger platform. The other possible glimpse into the future is the 2004 Bronco Concept, which was a rugged combination of old and new styling.

While a rebadged Everest would likely be the cheapest route for Ford, I highly doubt anyone would consider it a potential rival to the Wrangler. Now, a refreshed and slightly toned-down production version of the 2004 Bronco concept would be something off-road enthusiasts would look to as a rival to the legendary Jeep.

We’ll keep tabs on this topic and alert you of any new developments.
