The CR-Z has been a beautiful mess since it debuted as it has the fun looks of the classic CRX but lacks the driving characteristics to match its spiritual predecessor—mostly due to its hybrid powertrain. This has led to stagnant sales and experts wondering just how long Honda would keep it in production. Well, a new CR-Z “Final Label” in Japan may just be this model’s death rattle.

This model doesn’t get a ton in terms of updates, but just enough to give the CR-Z at least some sort of sendoff. The updates include an exclusive Brilliant Sporty Blue Metallic paint job, matte-finish 17-inch wheels, a tonneau cover, premium pedals, piano black steering wheel accents, an aluminum “CR-Z Final Label” plaque on the console, and “CR-Z Final Label” embroidered on the seatbacks.

In addition to the metallic blue seen in the images, buyers can opt for two other monotone colors: Premium White Pearl II and Smart Black. There are also two two-tone color schemes available: Premium Yellow Pearl II and black, and Sporty Brilliant Blue Metallic and black. Inside, buyers can choose from a combination of smooth leather and fabric or smooth leather and Lux Suede on the seats.

Under its hood, this special-edition CR-Z remains unchanged as it carries a 1.5-liter engine and a hybrid drive unit that produce a combined 130 horsepower and 140 pound-feet of torque (127 pound-feet with the continuously variable transmission).

For now, Honda has only announced this model’s availability in Japan, but I suspect we’ll see some sort of farewell version of the CR-Z here in the U.S. soon. Stay tuned for updates.
