It used to be that if you wanted an SUV, you had to pony up a considerable amount of cash. That was also when SUVs came with loads of chrome and guzzled gas with blatant disregard to the unstable political nature of the Middle East. Today, there are SUVs that are more budget-friendly, including a number of models that you can purchase for under $25,000. Following is a list of the seven best models for that low price. Each one delivers a surprising amount of value for your hard-earned money.

1. Kia Sorento – MSRP from $24,100

There are not many inexpensive SUVs that offer the option of three rows, and among those that do exist the Sorento is the best option. The vehicle can be had for the same price as many compact sedans, offering more cargo space and better capabilities when driving on snow-packed roads. Even though Kia sells the Sorento for a deal, the South Korean automaker does not cut corners. Higher-end amenities you would expect to see on a much more expensive model are offered as options, like a panoramic sunroof or the advanced UVO infotainment system that uses Google software. Like other recent Kia models, the Sorento also offers a premium-feeling interior that sets it apart from other affordable SUV options.

Something to keep in mind with the Jeep Wrangler is it has a terrible reliability record. One of the worst among all SUVs actually.

With the Cherokee if you get the smallest engine you’ll feel like you should get out and push it. Very underpowered.

The Toyota FJ is better than all of these and a great reliability record.
