2018 Toyota Sienna Gains New Tech, a New Look, and More Safety Bits

The Toyota Sienna, AKA the “swagger wagon,” will undergo a thorough refresh in 2018, just a year after it received a more powerful engine. With this rework, 2015 and 2016’s best-selling minivan gets new technology, an updated look, and the latest in safety goodies.

Last year, Toyota introduced a reworked version of the Sienna’s 3.5-liter V-6 engine, pushing its output to 296 horsepower and 263 pound-feet of torque – a boost of 30 horsepower and 18 pound-feet. For 2018, it gets a new front end to go with this more potent engine. The refreshed nose aligns the minivan with the most recent Toyota design language seen on the latest RAV4, Corolla, Camry, and Avalon. It includes a thin grille with almost a point in the center, a hood to match, new headlights, a new front apron, and new fog lights. Also new are the sportier lower rockers like on the SE trim.

Safety is another area Toyota is reworking the 2018 Sienna, as it joins the majority of the automaker’s lineup in getting standard Toyota Safety Sense (TSS-P). This system includes a pre-collision system (auto emergency braking) with pedestrian detection, full-speed dynamic radar cruise, lane-departure warning with steering assist, and automatic high beams.

Inside, the 2018 Sienna will get the new Toyota Entune 3.0 system on all trims. On the L, LE, SE, and XLE trims, this new system will include Scout Link navigation with moving maps, while the everything above the L trim gains Entune Audio Plus, which includes Safety Connect and Wi-Fi Connect for accessing 4G LTE internet on up to five devices. Those who bump up to the Entune 3.0 Premium JBL Audio gain Sound Staging for concert-like sound, a 10.1-inch subwoofer, Clari-Fi technology, nine speakers, and Dynamic Navigation.

Additional tech features in 2018 include five USB ports, a new rear-seat entertainment system that can stream from Android devices, a Bird’s Eye View Monitor on the Limited Premium trim, and a 4.2-inch multi-information display.

Those who pick up the SE or Limited trim will be treated to reduced noise thanks to a laminated front windshield on the former and acoustic front side glass on the latter.

The 2018 Toyota Sienna will hit showrooms in the fall of 2017, but the starting price is not available yet.
