The Audi SQ5 has long been a badass crossover, but with the brand’s design language quickly evolving, it was becoming long in the tooth. So, at the 2017 Detroit Auto Show, the German automaker unveiled its all-new 2018 SQ5.

The appearance is precisely what we expected from a new-gen Audi, as it boasts the latest style that all the brand’s other models are inheriting. This look, while maybe not as timeless as the previous generation, is far more eye-grabbing and modern. Some of the highlights include its coupe-like roofline, platinum-gray Singleframe grille with aluminum optic horizontal blade bars, aluminum optic side-view mirror covers, three-dimensional LED headlights and LED taillights with dynamic turn signals.

While the exact specs aren’t available, the interior is roomier, thanks to its increased legroom and shoulder room, and enhanced cargo-carrying abilities. Giving this performance crossover its sporty feel inside is a sport steering wheel, sport seats with available diamond stitching, matte brushed aluminum trim, an asymmetrical center console, carbon atlas inlays and more.

Passengers will also enjoy the SQ5’s new MMI touch infotainment system with handwriting recognition, the Bang & Olufsen audio system, Google Earth navigation, an added boost gauge and lap timer, and more. As for safety, there is the new adaptive cruise and standard Audi Pre-Sense, which features auto emergency braking.

Powering the 2018 SQ5 is a 3.0-liter turbocharged V6 engine with the same 354 horsepower as the last-gen model. This engine will help sprint the crossover to 60 mph in just 5.1 seconds. The new SQ5 also boasts a new sport adaptive suspension, which comes with the S sport package, that lowers the ride height by up to 30 mm (1.18 inches). In addition to the model’s four standard suspension settings (comfort, auto, dynamic and individual), it adds allroad and lift/off-road.

The 2018 Audi SQ5 will hit showrooms in the spring of 2017. Pricing will come at a later date.
