The release of 2016 models is in full swing, and everyone is now joining in on the new model year fun. Today, Jaguar announced the updates it’s giving to the 2016 XJ and XJL sedan. While the changes to the XJ are subtle, they are certainly well done and improve the British rig.

Starting with the outward appearance, Jag made a few blink-and-you’ll-miss-them updates to the body. It started with an updated front fascia that includes a larger and more upright grille with a new mesh insert, a lightly revised bumper, and new chrome blades in the lower air intakes. Also new is the addition of standard full adaptive LED headlights across the range.

The chassis also underwent a mild update for the 2016 model year, which was the addition of electric power steering. This system helps reduce parasitic drain on the engine and helps eliminate excessive feedback through the steering wheel.Jag_XJ_Autobiography_Image_150615_02_(111028)Jaguar also spent some time updating the technology within the cabin. This includes the addition of the new InControl Touch Pro infotainment system, which features an Intel quad-core processor, a 60GB solid-state hard drive, a next-gen Ethernet network, and an 8-inch captive touchscreen that operates similar to a smartphone.

Jaguar also massaged its standard audio system, choosing to make its 825-watt, 17-speker Meridian system standard fare on the 2016 XJ. For buyers who need even better-sounding audio, there is a 26-speaker, 1,300-watt Meridian Reference system available

Safety is also key for the XJ, and the biggest addition to the lineup is Jaguar’s new All-Surface Progress Control. The driver can activate this system by pressing a button on the center console between 2.2 and 19 mph, and the system slowly accelerates the car, thereby minimizing wheel spin on slippery surfaces.Jag_XJ_Portfolio_Interior_Image_1590615_06_(111030)The 2016 XJ will also make the daily commute less frustrating with the addition of Queue Assist to its cruise control system. This feature automatically stops and accelerates the car in heavy traffic. Once you get to your destination, the XJ will now practically park itself thanks to its new Park Assist. This system measures both parallel and perpendicular spaces to assure the car will fit, then it uses ultrasonic sensors and the electric power steering to navigate into the space. The driver only operated the accelerator and brake. In a parallel parking spot, this system will also pull the car back out of the parking space.

For 2016, the drivetrain carries over unchanged. This means there is one supercharged 3.0-liter V-6 with 340 horsepower, and two 5.0-liter supercharged V-8s that produce 470 and 550 horsepower. The latter 5.0-liter engine is exclusive to the XJR.

There are no pricing details available yet, but we should learn these soon, because the model hits dealers in the fall of 2015.
