5. You Could Get a Better Price If You Don’t Mention Your Trade-In One of the biggest mistakes anyone can make when buying a car is telling the salesperson that they have a trade in. If you go to a dealer and find a car you like, negotiate your price before telling them that you have a trade in. This ensures that the dealership was unable to bump up the price to offset the cost of the trade in. This especially applies when a dealership holds a set price trade in promotion, for example, $4,000 for any car. If your car is worth $1,000, you don’t want them to know you’re taking them up on their deal.
