3. Mitsubishi Lancer Ralliart – MSRP from $28,095
The base versions of the Lancer are like a bowl of plain oatmeal: just plain boring. The Ralliart is both affordable and a blast to drive, making it the perfect car to surprise those who have no idea what it is. The engineering wizards at Mitsubishi took a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine and used a turbo along with some other innovations to squeeze 237 horsepower and 253 lb.-ft. of torque out. The car has an advanced all-wheel drive system that is arguably one of the better setups in the industry. The only transmission option is an automated dual-clutch manual with an active center differential. Acceleration is brisk at 5.8 seconds for the 0 to 60 mph dash. The car doesn’t come with the kind of wild styling you get on the Evolution, but it does have dual tailpipes and a few subtle exterior aesthetics to make it look sporty in comparison to the other Lancers.
