GM is forging ahead in a direction nobody has dared ventured. Nobody has ever produced a luxury range-extended hybrid vehicle, making this a bit of a gamble for the upscale brand. Unlike the sibling Chevy Volt, the ELR brings a high degree of luxury and a sporty look and feel, while still being environmentally friendly. This is a big deal to people who want to purchase gas only once every few months but who also want to ride around in comfort and style, which is just not possible in vehicles like the Prius.
